Citizens Against Domestic Violence (CADV) in Ohio

November 9, 2011 by Otis No Comments »

In 1992, Tina Croucher?s abusive teenage boyfriend slipped into her bedroom while she was sleeping and murdered her. To prevent others from experiencing similar tragedies, her parents Jim and Elsa Croucher founded Citizens Against Domestic Violence (CADV) in 1996.

CADV?s Teen Dating Violence Prevention Program reaches out to students all over Ohio and it has led to the Ohio legislature passing the Tina Croucher Act in 2009, which became effective in March 2010. The purpose of this new law is to educate teenagers about domestic violence.

Indoctrination begins through school curriculums starting at the seventh grade level and extends through the twelfth grade. Under this law, schools must have a dating violence policy, and middle and high school employees must receive training on dating violence. A dozen organizations in Northeast Ohio collaborate in assisting schools and communities to comply with the Tina Croucher Act and address potential violence and bullying among teenagers through student, conflict resolution teams. CADV works with leaders to bring the Tina Project to areas throughout Ohio.

If you or a loved one faces domestic violence issues, legal protection is available. Seek counsel as soon as possible from an experienced Cincinnati criminal defense lawyer.

Are You Receiving All of Your Workers Comp Benefits?

by Otis No Comments »

If you suffer on-the-job injury or an occupational illness in Massachusetts, the law entitles you to receive workers? compensation benefits. Workers? compensation pays for lost wages and medical bills and for total or partial disability. You have the right to receive treatment from the doctor of your choice.

Families who lose loved ones through work accidents or occupational disease may receive death benefits from workers? compensation.

Employers must carry workers? compensation to cover work injuries or work related illness or death, and in return, workers cannot sue employers for negligence. However, workers can sue third parties for negligence. Massachusetts courts assign a percentage of negligence in accident injury cases based on comparative negligence statutes. Comparative negligence allows victims who are less than 51 percent at fault for causing their own injury to recover compensation from negligent parties. A third party suit can help offset the high costs of some work related injuries.

A lawyer can help hold third parties accountable and ensure you receive all the workers? comp benefits entitled under MA law. Call 617.245.0936 to speak with Boston workers compensation lawyer, John J. Sheehan. Our law firm address is 44 School St., Suite 815, Boston, MA 02108.

Seriously Injured in a Car Accident?

October 20, 2011 by Otis No Comments »

If you suffer serious injury or disability from a car accident because of someone else’s negligence, you can get legal help. Whether you are the driver or a passenger, a car accident lawyer can help you recover compensation to pay for medical bills, lost wages, and pain and suffering.

Under Massachusetts law, if you suffer permanent and serious disfigurement, a fracture, a partial or complete loss of a body part, or loss of sight or hearing, you may sue for damages in an auto accident lawsuit. Family members may also sue for the death of a loved one.

A skilled attorney knows how to get you money for your injury costs and how to deal with insurance companies in auto accident lawsuits. Insurance companies look out for their own interests, not yours, and often make lowball settlement offers that do not provide you with the amount of money you need. However, experienced Boston auto accident lawyers can fight to see that you get the money you deserve.
