Immigration Stories

May 5, 2011 by Admin No Comments »

Watch a clip of an incredible immigration story about one man who came to the U.S. as an illegal immigrant, went to Harvard, and became a successful neurosurgeon.

The video clip, part of “First Look: An Immigrant Story” by Steve Hartman (CBS News), is about “Dr. Q,” a neurosurgeon at Johns Hopkins Hospital. As a child, Dr. Q crossed the border from Mexico into the U.S. illegally. His first job was as a migrant farm worker. 20 years later, he is a neurosurgeon at one of the most renowned medical facilities in the nation.

Many immigration stories involve tragedy and the harrowing circumstances of families who face living illegally in the US. But whether an individual or a family’s story is one of success or not, immigration is a controversial issue. There are many people who argue that a success story is not justification for being in the U.S. illegally. In the video, Dr. Q. responds to this argument by saying, “I am very thankful for what this country has done for me and the only thing I can do is try to pay it back every day, by every single thing I do.”
