Three Stooges | Disorder in the Court
This three-minute Three Stooges clip comes from Disorder in the Court, a classic short from America‘s favorite slapstick trio.
Disorder in the Court was the Stooges‘ fifteenth Columbia Pictures short. It was released in May 1936, clocking in at just over eighteen minutes long.
Even though it‘s an early Stooges short, it‘s not a Shemp Â? it‘s a Curly. In fact, Curly‘s the star of the famous swearing-in scene from Disorder in the Court, featured in this Three Stooges clip.
The Disorder in the Court plot revolves around the Stooges as key witnesses in a murder trial. Gail Tempest, a dancer at the nightclub where the Stooges are musicians, is accused of killing Kirk Robin.
However, the famous Curly swearing in scene in this Three Stooges clip is not unique to the Stooges or Disorder in the Court. The routine was "borrowed" verbatim from Buster Keaton‘s Sidewalks of New York.
Disorder in the Court is one of four Three Stooges shorts to fall into the public domain after the copyright lapsed in the 1960s. This means it is widely available along with three other shorts (Malice in the Palace, Brideless Groom, and Sing a Song of Six Pants), appearing in a variety of VHS and DVD collections, and on several websites.
