Car Accident Caught on Live TV

February 23, 2012 by Otis No Comments »

Viewers of this nightly news broadcast witnessed a surprising event when two vehicles collided in the intersection directly behind reporter Adrienne Pederson. Drivers of both cars emerged after the event and appeared to be fine, but this video raises an important question: What should you do after an auto accident?

If you have been in a collision with another vehicle, you should:

  • Call the police so they can take an accident report
  • Stay at the scene until you are told you may leave
  • Collect the other driver’s insurance and contact information
  • Take photos of the accident site, damage to all vehicles and your injuries
  • Seek medical attention even if you do not believe you were hurt
  • Contact a lawyer to discuss filing a lawsuit

This last step can be critical to your ability to collect damages if you have been seriously injured. A knowledgeable car accident lawyer can evaluate the circumstances of your accident to determine whether you have a claim and, if so, advocate for you at the negotiation table or in court.

Skilled personal injury representation in San Antonio

After suffering serious injury or the wrongful death of a loved one, choosing the right personal injury attorney in San Antonio is essential. Thought and research is required when selecting an attorney-do not hire an attorney based on a phone call. Reputable personal injury attorneys offer free, initial consultations. Take advantage of that consultation to ask needed questions, inquire about fee arrangements, and consider how you feel about legal services offered.

Questions to ask when meeting with an attorney on your personal injury matter include:

  • Board certification - Ask about certification in personal injury through the Texas Board of Legal Specialization.
  • Reputation – Ask about track record on legal matters similar to yours. And inquire about reputation or an AV rating from Martindale Hubbell.
  • Resources – Inquire whether the law firm or attorney has sufficient financial reserves to fully support your personal injury case from start to finish.

Your choice of legal counsel after injury or loss affects the rest of your life-make sure you make the right choice to help you pursue fair compensation for your damages. Doing so will help protect both you and your family.

Driving Safe in Winter Weather, Tips for Navigating West Virginia Roads

January 3, 2012 by Otis No Comments »

Inclement driving conditions always pose a danger to West Virginia drivers and their passengers. Rain, wind, and fog cause travel difficulties throughout the year, but winter driving has its own frightening hazards.

Driving safely during the winter season in Charleston and throughout the state depends on staying alert and making good choices. Tips for navigating stormy weather include the following:

  • If the weather is poor and the roads just as bad – consider not driving at all.
  • Use your seat belt every time and insist passengers do the same.
  • Do not drive distracted, impaired, or fatigued.
  • Avoid use of your cell phone – even with a headset. Never send text messages while driving.
  • Use snow tires, keep them properly inflated, and do not mix radial tires with other types of tires.
  • Drive slowly in snow. Allow extra travel time, be cautious and courteous of other drivers, and leave abundant space between cars at all times. Never tailgate.
  • Use even pedal pressure to negotiate hills – extra gas can spin the wheels.
  • Never slam on your brakes. Apply steady, even pressure and slow down in a cautious manner.
  • Keep your gas tank at least half-full and your car in good working condition. Check lights, windshield wipers, and defroster before heading out in snow.
  • Keep emergency supplies in your trunk, including flares, a flashlight, a first aid kit, a blanket, a reflective poncho, battery jumper cables, a shovel, and road salt.

You never know when bad weather conditions will cause an accident or force you to the side of the road. Driving in bad weather is challenging, and accidents occur with every storm in West Virginia. But being prepared and driving safely help avoid accidents and injury no matter what the season.

If you live in Charleston or the surrounding area, an experienced West Virginia personal injury lawyers can help get fair compensation to help cover medical bills, lost wages, pain and suffering, and more for financial and emotional assistance.
